Day 7: Slovak Tatras

Slovak Tatras
We started today's section by crossing the Slovak border and riding through some nice mountain resourst beneath Slovak Tatras. These resorts are very nice and they don't seem overcrowded. Slovak Tatras look really majestic from them.

We drove toward Štrbské Pleso. This resort is located 1,300 meters above sea level. It does not seem as luxurious as the resorts we saw before, but it must be very popular because we saw crowds of people coming here to hike.

Riding a motorcycle underneath Slovak Tatras is a joyful experience. The road is wide and twisty with good asphalt, allowing faster riding.
Traveling through central Slovakia
After Štrbske Pleso, the road descended and we drove through the countryside. I spotted a castle as we passed through Liptovský Hrádok and made a detour to visit it.
The castle is quite small. We bought tickets to enter and explore it. They have a collection of arms and a large numismatic collection.

The area around Banska Bystrica appears to have a tradition of iron and steel production. However, I am not sure how relevant this is today, as the industrial complexes do not seem to be in perfect condition.

However, Banska Bystrica is a fairly large and modern city.
Southern Slovakia
Our destination for today was southern Slovakia, close to the border with Hungary. The countryside and towns and villages look similar.

We arrived to Hokovce, where we reserved an apartment, in late afternoon. After unpacking we bought some food for next day and found a restaurant to eat. I was surprised how few people speaks English - even the younger ones. I noticed that in Poland, too.
We traveled 294 km today. The entire tour has been 1,477 km so far.
